Overview
In this quest, you will model and analyze a five-storey steel building under earthquake ground motion using MIDAS GEN NX. You will define Eurocode steel material and sections, generate the building frame, create bracing members, and organize the model using story data. You will assign supports, self-weight, and floor loads before converting the structural loads into lumped masses. The calculated story masses will then be used to configure the building’s dynamic analysis model. Next, you will define a time history load case, import the El Centro acceleration record, and apply horizontal ground acceleration. After performing eigenvalue and linear modal time history analyses, you will evaluate step-wise displacement, velocity, acceleration, and member-force responses. By completing this quest, you will be able to: - Model a multi-storey steel frame with bracing members - Define gravity and floor loads - Convert self-weight and dead loads into structural masses - Review story mass data - Define a seismic time history load case - Apply horizontal earthquake ground acceleration - Configure and perform eigenvalue analysis - Perform linear modal time history analysis - Review step-wise displacement and member-force results - Create response-versus-time graphs for selected nodes
