Overview
In this quest, you will explore four practical case studies on the numerical modeling and analysis of underground excavations and tunnel structures using MIDAS GTS NX. First, you will investigate tunnel-induced ground settlement for a 6.3 m circular metro tunnel under different overburden depths and soil conditions. FEM predictions will be compared with analytical results and field monitoring data to evaluate settlement behavior. Next, you will analyze a 3D NATM horseshoe tunnel excavated in rock. Using the Hoek-Brown criterion for rock and the Mohr-Coulomb criterion for soil, you will review tunnel deformation, bending moments, shear forces, lining forces, and rock-bolt axial forces to assess support performance. You will then study how different groundwater levels influence the bending behavior of a circular tunnel. Finally, you will evaluate the seismic response of an underground box structure under varying tunnel depths, soil conditions, groundwater levels, and seismic zones. By completing this quest, you will be able to: - Evaluate tunnel-induced settlement under different ground conditions. - Compare FEM predictions with analytical and field results. - Model and assess NATM tunnel support systems in rock. - Investigate groundwater effects on tunnel structural forces. - Evaluate racking deformation and bending moments under seismic loads.
