Steel Composite I-Girder Bridge Design to AS/NZS 5100

Build a steel composite I-girder bridge, apply M1600 moving loads and construction stages, and verify the design to AS/NZS 5100.6:2017 in CIVIL NX.

Overview

In this quest, you will model, analyze, and design a two-span steel composite I-girder bridge in MIDAS CIVIL NX. Using the Steel Composite Bridge Wizard, you will define the steel girders, concrete deck, cross beams, bracing system, bearings, materials, and composite section properties. You will also configure construction stages, the deck-pouring sequence, reinforcement, and time-dependent concrete properties. You will apply dead loads, wearing surface and barrier loads, and Australian M1600 moving loads. After performing the analysis, you will review reactions, shear forces, bending moments, influence lines, and critical vehicle positions using the Moving Load Tracer. Finally, you will generate load combinations based on AS 5100.2:2017 and verify the composite girder design according to AS/NZS 5100.6:2017. Key checks include moment and shear capacity, section slenderness, web buckling, shear connectors, slab crack control, and longitudinal shear. By completing this quest, you will be able to: - Generate a steel composite I-girder bridge using the Wizard. - Define composite sections, bracing, bearings, and reinforcement. - Apply construction stages and Australian moving loads. - Evaluate critical forces and vehicle positions. - Verify steel composite members and generate a design report.
