2D Soil Nail Reinforced Slope Stability Analysis

Build a two-layer slope with embedded soil nails, perform SRM analyses, and compare failure surfaces and safety factors before and after reinforcement.

Overview

This tutorial guides you through evaluating the safety factors for a soil-nailed slope in MIDAS GTS NX. You will create a two-dimensional slope with embankment and foundation layers, apply Mohr-Coulomb soil properties, and model inclined soil nails using embedded truss elements. You will perform separate Strength Reduction Method analyses for the unreinforced and reinforced conditions. By reviewing maximum shear-strain localization and critical safety factors, you will quantify how soil nails improve the overall stability of the slope. By completing this quest, you will learn how to: - Create a two-layer 2D slope geometry - Define Mohr-Coulomb soil and elastic nail material - Model inclined soil nails using embedded truss elements - Generate and connect soil and reinforcement meshes - Configure ground boundaries and self-weight - Calculate slope safety factors using the Strength Reduction Method - Compare failure surfaces and safety factors with and without reinforcement
