3D Horseshoe Tunnel Construction Stage Analysis

Build a 3D horseshoe tunnel in Hoek-Brown rock, sequence excavation and support installation, and evaluate ground deformation, bolt forces, and lining moments.

Overview

This tutorial guides you through constructing a three-dimensional horseshoe-shaped tunnel model in MIDAS GTS NX. You will create the tunnel and surrounding rock geometry, define Generalized Hoek-Brown rock properties, and generate solid, shell, and truss meshes for the ground, lining, and rock bolts. You will then use the Stage Wizard to simulate sequential excavation, rock bolt installation, and lining activation. After establishing the initial stress condition and performing construction-stage analysis, you will evaluate tunnel deformation, rock bolt axial forces, and lining bending moments. By completing this quest, you will learn how to: - Create a 3D horseshoe tunnel and surrounding rock geometry - Define elastic support materials and Hoek-Brown rock behavior - Generate excavation, rock, lining, and rock bolt meshes - Configure ground boundaries, self-weight, and initial stresses - Automate excavation and support sequences using the Stage Wizard - Perform three-dimensional construction-stage analysis - Review ground deformation and structural support forces
